If nothing else, this pre-alpha gameplay footage from Serious Sam4: Planet Badass looks great for the stage it is in. The game features a new Legion system, allowing the game to generate battlefields that support thousands of enemies, meaning more explosions, gore, and action than has seen before in the Serious Sam franchise. Some people love these shooters, others not. Serious Sam 4 will be playable solo, or co-op with up to 4-player support, allowing players to join together to take down the horde of Mental’s invaders, including the Scrapjack, Werebull, and new Processed.

The game’s Steam Store page describes the game as “a high-powered prequel to the Serious Sam series that scales up chaos to unprecedented levels.” Going off the new trailer it is clear to see that Croteam has kept the latest title firmly rooted in the ground built by the first three games, which is witty dialogue, big weapons, brutal kills, and endless enemies determined to overwhelm and destroy Sam Stone.

The biggest problem facing the Serious Sam Collection is simply that the franchise has not aged well over the past two decades or so. I just noticed the single shotty in the first clip being normal and then having a sort of grip to help pull the pump in the next clip. Serious Sam 2 is clearly absent, but unfortunately, that's not the only problem facing the collection. Either the video snippets from the SS4 trailers were taken from different stages of development or there might be some sort of attachments mechanic. While there's a lot of Sam to for gamers to digest here, the collection isn't complete. The collection includes the HD remake of both episodes from the original Serious Sam, as well as Serious Sam 3 and the games' expansion packs. The Serious Sam series might have been a little late to the party, but it still struck a chord with fans as something unique with its mature, tongue-in-cheek humor and distinct gameplay, and now, twenty years later, the Serious Sam Collection has made its way to Stadia.
